Back to School and the Lunch Lady Brownies~Yummy!

I have been feeling nostalgic about grand kids and their soon return to school.  The fall of the year brings back many memories of that first day of school.  I went to a very small elementary school and we did have lunch ladies!  They made the best homemade rolls and brownies.  I found several sites that had the "Lunch Lady brownie recipe."  This is the one I chose to use and you can find it here.  It is found at Six Sisters Stuff.  In their post they gave credit to the Saltbox house site and you can find the original recipe also here.

I have a Vintage school desk and black board the kids just love to play with.  I thought this would make a cute background for displaying the lunch lady brownies.

The recipe is quite fudgy if you do not over bake it.  I actually made two batches.  The first I let bake a little to long and they seemed a bit dry.  The second I took them out of the oven when the center was still a little gooey and that made them much better.

The Milk bottle comes from Aldi.  It was a mocha drink that once finished, the plastic was removed and washed.  Now looks like an expensive little milk bottle that might be purchased.  The grand kids also love to use these with colored straws.  (They always want two or three in the bottle.)  I am all about making do or finding something which can be re-used and looks like it has just been purchased from an expensive store.

The recipe made a good size tray.  These were cut a little warm....so not real smooth around the edges!  I couldn't wait to try them I guess!

I discovered a few school things to use as a cute background for the brownies.  These remind me of how quickly things change!  I am pretty sure that a dictionary is almost obsolete now!  Kids still do ride the school bus though!

What happens at Grammy's house stays at Grammy's house!  Treat your little ones to an old fashioned "Lunch Lady Brownie!"  Have a great week and blessing to you!

  1. Your setting is just so cute for back to school, and your desk and chair is wonderful. Who wouldn't love one of your brownies, especially with that cute milk bottle??!!
You asked about my tea kettle. My son said that he used a primer, and then acrylic paints. For a coating, he used a matte mod podge and then sanded that. I hope that helps you. I love the Mackenzie Child's designs, too, but too pricey!! I would've emailed you back, but you're a noreply comment blogger.
