The Hibiscus Easter egg

The quest to create a unique Easter egg has stretched my brain just a bit!  It occurred to me that those beautiful hibiscus blooms were just too pretty to not use for something, so with some experimentation....this is what happened.

I have been wanting to try a recipe with glue and water to make my own decoupage.  This would be so much cheaper than using the popular decoupage medium.  I used about 1/2 cup of white glue and a couple of tablespoons of water to make a thick glue solution.  The spent hibiscus bloom was picked and then the end cut off where all the petals come together.  Each petal was opened and then left to dry on the counter. During a recent trip to the dollar store, I picked up 6 (3 inch) plastic eggs for $1.00.   The hibiscus petals were dipped in the glue solution and then layered over the egg.  The egg was left to dry overnight.  The layers of the hibiscus blooms make a very pretty design and is very natural looking.

A sweet little bluebird was painted on one side.

Thanks for taking a peek at this make do Easter egg!  Happy Spring!
