We had lots of fun at our Pink Tea Party. The kiddos looked so cute in their tea party hats. I will show you how easy they were to create, and were inexpensive too!
A trip was made to Jo-Ann fabrics for pretty ribbon. I had been on the lookout for a sun visor to use as the base of the hat. Low and behold, eureka! There they were, pink visors for 60% off! Originally the visors were marked at $1.49. I purchased 5 of them, which cost $4.45.
I had Mod Podge on hands, but just plain glue would also work. The visors were all given a painting of the decoupage medium and then sprinkled with pink glitter.
I had picked up some peony blooms at Dollar General for three dollars. The bush had 6 blooms on it, which was quite enough to do all of the hats. I also used a contrasting cream color bloom, which I had on hands. Again, Dollar General will have several choices of flower bushes for $3.00.
The pink tulle I had on hands, however, at Wal-Mart it can be purchased for $.97 a yard. It is wide so for the hats it took about 1 and 1/2 yards.
1. For each hat, cut a 10-inch long piece of tulle. Cut across the entire width of the tulle. Your piece will be 10 inches long and approximately 54 inches wide.
2. Fold the tulle in 1/2 the width of the fabric.
3. Fold the tulle again the width of the fabric. It will be approximately 15 inches wide and 10 inches long after you do this.
4. Cut a piece of ribbon (I used 1/4 inch wide ribbon) 36 inches in length.
5. Tie the tulle in the middle with matching ribbon.
6. Attach the tulle to the visor on one side, tying the ribbon around the visor and then bringing it back to the top side so that the ribbon is on top of the tulle.
7. Tie two blooms to each hat. You made need to use a touch of hot glue to keep the blooms where you want them.
8. Make a long bow of ribbon and lace and hot glue to the center of your tulle and flowers and let flow from the side.
8. Fluff out the ends of the tulle and poof! You are done. A sweet little creation which will bring oohs and aahs!
Trust you will have a great time making one of these little hats. Let me know if you do!
