The Parke County Covered Bridge Festival!

I had to make a trip to Indianapolis yesterday and on my way home decided to drive through the country.  Tomorrow, October the 14th starts the Covered Bridge festival in Parke County Indiana.

At the top of this hill was the neatest old Mail Box.

The one below and the one above, are two of some 31 bridges in Parke County.

The above link is a great resource for those traveling to Indiana to view these bridges.  The Festival starts on October the 14th through October the 23rd.

Bridgeton, IN is one of my favorite places to go.  There is, of course, lots of vendors, but also a mill and a large covered bridge.  Unfortunately, this bridge is a replacement. The original was destroyed by fire a few years ago.

Below is a picture of the previous covered bridge, built in 1868.

There are lots of great food, vendors, and scenery during this festival.  The trees are just now starting to turn. As I was coming home yesterday, you can see the beginning of beautiful color.  By next week the color should be pretty vibrant.

You will also find some unique lodging in the area.  One of my favorites to drive by is the Cabins at Hobson Farms.

If you stay at their main house you will see another beautiful view of a covered bridge over Sugar Creek.

These cabins are just adjacent to Turkey Run State Park, which is also a wonderful place to visit.
