Giving Tea Away!

How true the statement "It is more blessed to give than to receive."  My little Granddaughter and I had the opportunity to help with hosting a Tea at a local Nursing Home.  The Residents were so grateful and it was a blessing to see the smiles on their faces.  My little Granddaughter was the hit of the party!  So many smiles!  They all loved her big hat!  The small things in life that we can do to cheer someone's day is worth it all!  I have a very talented friend who helped to organize the tea.  You can see with this picture a beautiful image under the vintage glass plates we decided to use.  The image was a napkin that she had printed and then cut the image!  So beautiful and made a beautiful place setting.

My little Granddaughter was the hit of the party for sure but in return learned many valuable lessons in giving.

She also learned how to fanfold cloth napkins and place them in the goblets.
She helped to serve the Residents and then she enjoyed a glass of tea.

The hat she is wearing is one that she loves to wear when she has "Tea at Grammy's house."  I had asked her mommy if she could dress up for the tea at the Nursing home.  I had not told her I was going to bring a hat for her to wear.  When I picked her up she was wearing this dress!  It matched the hat perfectly!  The Lord knew for sure!

The Nursing Home provided the food.  My friend had actually proposed the menu.  We had cucumber sandwiches on Rye Bread, Egg salad sandwiches, Chocolate covered Strawberries, delicious scones, Lemon tarts, fruit, and of course tea! (Mango, Raspberry, Peach, and Regular Tea.)

We asked how many of the Residents that this was their first tea?  Several raised their hands.  We had one gentleman with us who stated this definitely was his first tea party.  At the end I asked him if he enjoyed himself and he gave me a thumbs up!  There was VERY Little food left at the end of the tea and definitely a lot of smiles!

I would encourage you if ever given the chance to "Give Tea Away" that you would do so!

Grammy also got to dress up and wear one of her hats!  That is the fun part pretending your a little girl again! (Even though you are NOT LOL!)

Give some tea away today!

Such a sweet idea. I can remember making placemats and decorations for nursing homes as a kid, in Brownies, GirlScouts and at Sunday School. I never realized what an impact those simple things do for shut-ins, until visiting my Dad at a rehabilitation center, and his lunch table and mates were oohing and ahhing over the lovely decorations brought in my the local children. Small things mean so much….I am sure they were thrilled and delighted with a 'real' tea. Lovely!
